Virtual Southlake DiwaliFest 2020 – Discover a food, music and dance filled holiday celebration inspired by diverse cultural festivities
Diwali, or also known as Deepavali or Festival of Lights, is India’s biggest festival and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. The mission of the Diwali at Southlake Town Square Festival of Lights is to celebrate Indian culture and traditions by featuring traditional Indian dance, entertainment, and food from various parts of India. The goal of Southlake Diwali is to expose the Southlake community to the culture and traditions of India. In India, the Diwali celebration is akin to Christmas and it represents the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance.
On behalf of City of Southlake, I want to extend my warm wishes for Diwali to all the people who celebrate this auspicious festival. Diwali is a Festival of Lights, it’s a time when world’s great faiths celebrate the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. Diwali is a reminder we must each do our part to achieve that victory, also reflecting on our City’s core values, dedicating ourselves in service to others. Southlake is a great and diverse city, strengthened by contributions of all our people! At this sacred time of the year, let’s join together across the religions and cultures to share the blessings we enjoy and recognize diversity in City of Southlake. I wish all of you a joyous Diwali celebration! Happy Diwali!Laura HillMayor
